“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
The kindergarten and 1st grade classes took this verse to heart as they completed their serve-a-thon project. The students went to Sayville Marina, site of the recent school picnic, and spent a few hours cleaning up the park and beach areas. Armed with gloves, garbage bags, and this verse, they picked up trash and recyclables which were littered about. Not only was the park cleaned, but those who were enjoying the park were witness to our young students doing something positive to care for the world God entrusted to us. One person even stopped to compliment the children.
It was with a sense of pride in a clean park that the children then ate a picnic lunch and played for a while on the playground. As we were driving home, students were eagerly discussing where they might be of service cleaning next – an elderly neighbor’s yard, the school playground, perhaps even Miss Baker’s yard?
